Movie Madness: Halloween Ends (2022)

(Available on Amazon Prime)

It’s about freaking time….

The movie opens with a teenage boy babysitting a little boy on Halloween night, a couple of years after the events of the last movie took place. The little boy is a horrible brat and gets what’s coming to him (are we supposed to feel this way?? He was a little brat, after all….)

He gets what’s coming to him, but not because of Michael Myers, who we don’t really even see until about halfway through the movie. The incident with the little boy is an accident (I guess), but the whole town blames the teenager (Corey, I think) and looks at him like he is a psycho.

This is similar to Laurie Strode and her granddaughter, who the town looks at like they are freaks because Michael Myers stalked them. This doesn’t really seem fair, but OK. One lady even blames Laurie for “hunting” down Michael, which led to death and destruction.

Honestly, I don’t remember the last movie well enough to say if this lady was full of it or not. All I remember about the last movie is that it kind of sucked, so much so that I wasn’t even going to watch this one but it was free and I was bored.

Anyway, Laurie and her granddaughter live in this super nice house because Laurie is going to live her life and not be afraid anymore (everything is super-normal now!). I am not sure how she could afford this super nice house – has she ever had a job?

She had a job as a headmistress of a fancy school in Halloween H20, but I guess we are supposed to forget all about that. She also had a son (Josh Hartnett, who had like the worst haircut ever, which was the most memorable part of that movie), but I guess that’s not a thing anymore. And is she still Michael Myers’ sister? That was a plot line for a while there. How can you pick and choose what parts of the old movies still apply to the new movies? It doesn’t seem fair!

Anywho, so Corey does eventually become a psychopath, with some sort of connection to Michael Myers (it seems weird just to call him “Michael.” I don’t know him well enough to assume that’s OK, I guess.)

I guess the point of the movie is that evil can spread from person to person? There are little jerks all over Haddonfield, and they end up turning others into little jerks. Michael Myers is kind of a peripheral character, really.

I won’t tell you who comes out the winner. There is a mysterious cop in a big cowboy hat at the end who only has one line, like, “Let’s do this!” or something. I think we are supposed to remember who he is from the last movie, but I honestly don’t. I was kind of distracted by wondering who the heck that guy was.

Some deaths, mostly people who were jerks and kind of deserved it. One guy caught in the crossfire who really didn’t.

A cat made an appearance but makes it out alive (phew!).

Gratuitous rattling muffler

Gratuitous sex scene (although it is off-screen)

The Blumhouse logo sequence thing was pretty awesome, as was the opening credits with the jack-o-lantern effects. Gotta give credit where it’s due…..

It was better than Scream 6, but not by a lot.
